We Jumped Off a Pier: Onni at Red Bull Flugtag 2025

Sometimes the best ideas are born over coffee. Sometimes they're born over "hold my beer" moments. This was definitely the latter.

Onni is the type of place where a crazy idea sparks a world of opportunity, and that was just what Red Bull Flugtag did—a bunch of larger-than-life characters super excited to make what seemingly is designed to remain unnoticed, fly the clear blue skies of Cape Town.

Why We Did It

Here's the thing about Onni, we've never been the "play it safe" brand. We're the ones who look at conventional wisdom and ask, "But what if we didn't?"

You can't authentically sell courage if you're not willing to be courageous yourself. You can't inspire people to take risks while hiding behind corporate speak. So when the opportunity came to literally jump off a pier in a homemade aircraft, the answer wasn't "should we?" but "how fast can we build this thing?"

The Build

The design question answered itself: the infamous Onni Tube.

Our packaging has always been about more than just getting your Onni from point A to point B. Want to store screws? Done. Need a fast-access bike repair kit holder? Perfect fit. Looking for a makeshift home for all that small garage clutter that'll ultimately be forgotten until one day you need an oddly sized allen key? The Tube's got you.

More importantly - want to fly through the skies in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?

Onni has you covered.

The final design? Well, it was a lifesize Onni tube.

The Day

Standing at the edge of an 8m drop, watching thousands of people cheering below, everything crystallized. This wasn't just about whether we'd fly or sink. It was about showing up and committing fully to the moment.

Did we break any distance records? Not exactly. Did we execute a perfect performance that had the crowd roaring? Absolutely. Did we end up soaking wet and trending on social media? You bet we did.

Why It Mattered

Red Bull Flugtag wasn't a marketing stunt, it was a statement. Onni exists because we believe life's too short for boring. We believe the best stories start with "remember that time we..." not "remember when we carefully calculated every risk and decided against it?"

We could have written a thousand words about brand values and authentic engagement. Instead, we built something ambitious and a little ridiculous, stood at the edge of a platform, and jumped.

Because that's what Onni is all about. Not playing it safe. But showing up, going big, and proving that the best things in life happen when you're brave enough to take the leap. It just helps to have the best pair of undies supporting you when you do take that jump.

We'd do it again in a heartbeat.
